Fed: Free trade stoush a test for Beazley Vaile
Federal Trade Minister MARK VAILE says a debate on free trade at the ALP's national
conference in Hobart today will be a definitive test for Opposition Leader KIM BEAZLEY's
leadership.
Tasmanian manufacturing workers will lead a protest against Labor's support for free
trade, although Mr BEAZLEY is expected to win the argument.
But Mr VAILE says the union movement wants to take control of the ALP, and he warns
the push against free trade will damage Australia's export prospects.
He says the ACTU is trying to camouflage an argument on workers conditions with fair
trade rhetoric.
