VIC:Melbourne suburb set for NBN connection
It's been turned on in Tasmania and New South Wales, now Victoria is set to connect
to the high speed fibre-optic national broadband network.
Part of Brunswick, in Melbourne's inner north, will be the first Victorian area to
be plugged in to the NBN cable today, the first metropolitan area to join.
Federal Communications Minister STEPHEN CONROY will be at Brunswick Town Hall to mark
the occasion.
Last month he connected Kiama Downs and Minnamurra on the NSW south coast, Armidale
in northern NSW in May, and three Tasmanian towns in August last year.

Shop Talk.
Despite the seemingly unending appetite for gigantic malls in Dubai, there are still some who prefer the old-fashioned way of shopping - popping into small-scale boutiques for more manageably-sized collections and a friendly personal service. So, jostling for attention between the never-ending rows of cosmetic surgeries and spas on Jumeirah Beach Road and Al Wasl Road, you'll find villas converted into mini fashion emporiums, where you even get to park right outside (very important in Dubai). And, if you thought these were for just the super rich who like to dress in head-to-toe couture, then you could be in for a pleasant surprise - SoirEe Nestled in a row of villas on Al Wasl Road, you'll find a new addition to the boutique scene, with Soiree. As the name suggests, the majority of the offerings are evening wear, but it also thankfully covers the dreaded 'smart casual' wardrobe crisis. What is it? It's owned and run by Dubai resident Mariya Kassam, who doesn't let a masters degree in International Relations and Diplomacy and a stint working for the UN in New York, get in the way of her passion for fashion. She saw a gap in the market to bring both well-known and up-and-coming designers from her native Pakistan to the shoppers of Dubai. With casual, party and evening wear on the ground floor, and the full bridal wear collections on the first floor; it's a delight for anyone interested in the fashions of that region. The Twist Although everything is ready-to-wear, Mariya carries only one size in each garment. This is all well and good if you are the handy size 12 that they are come in, but with three inches of extra fabric in the seams, Soiree's on-site tailors can suddenly produce a size 16 by letting out the seams, or a size 8 by nipping them in a little. If it still won't fit, then the store can arrange for the right size to be made back in Pakistan and shipped over in double quick time for no extra cost. This all sounds a little expensive, and although the bridal wear can run into several tens of thousands of dirhams, the less formal collections still match for value any evening wear you can pick up in a mall. The casual range Mariya tries to offer a 'fusion' theme to her collections - traditional wear with an eye to the modern. Although most of the designs can be worn as a stand-alone dress, they come with matching trousers and stole for more formal occasions, or can be teamed with jeans for a more western style. You'll find a good selection of shift dresses with embroidery and sequin touches at the necklines from many of the designers including Sania Tabani and Nadya Shah. Prices are around dhs1,500, while the shorter kaftan styles which look great with jeans range from dhs550. Talking of which, pick up a pair that have been embellished within an inch of their lives (with tassel belts for good measure) for dhs880. Team your new outfit with sequinned leather flats for only dhs250, designed by Nadiya Kassam. The Bridal Range The store stocks everything from beautiful dresses, saris, tunics and jackets that can be worn by the wedding guests to intricately designed traditional dresses, known as Shalwar Kameez. Beautiful raw silk tunic-style dresses, with precious stones embroidered into the designs are a pricey dhs4,900, or choose the velvet and crystal designs from Maheen Karim. If it's the full bridal wear that you're looking for, then you'll find great styles with modern twists (think neutral colours and softer pastel shades) in made-to-flatter designs. Weddings don't come cheap though, so expect to pay anything from dhs15,000 upwards for the whole outfit. If you like one of the designs, but prefer it in another colour, then Soiree can work with the designer to come up with your dream outfit. FED:Men put best self forward on Facebook
Eds: Embargoed until 0001 AEST Wednesday, August 11
SYDNEY, Aug 11 AAP - When it comes to their online image, Generation Y men are doing
more grooming and preening than women, research has found.
The study, which looked at how different age groups use and perceive online social
media like Facebook and Twitter, found men were more image-conscious than women.
Nearly 25 per cent of Gen Y guys said they actively manage their cyber profiles to
project their `best self' compared to 14 per cent of their female counterparts.
And unlike Generation Xers, the younger internet users see such sites as a tool to
share more than just a snapshot.
One in five Generation Y respondents believe Facebook helps them to reveal their personality,
compared to only one in 10 in the older age group.
The study, conducted in July for Carlton and United Breweries, surveyed 627 adults
aged between 22 and 40 to try to unravel whether social media affects superficiality.
It revealed that one in 10 Generation Y internet users has a digitally enhanced image
of themselves as their profile picture on Facebook, compared to one in 20 of Generation
X.
The younger users were also four times more likely to `un-tag' themselves from unflattering
snapshots, and twice as likely to pose for photos especially for their profile page.
Demographer Bernard Salt analysed the findings and says the superficial nature of online
social networking is no different to what exists in other eras.
"What is different today is that these behaviours are documented, stored and showcased
in social networks, on sites like Facebook, which can be accessed by all of your friends
and family," he said.
"While it might be natural for people to show off, exaggerate their attributes and
to preen and grandstand, these actions are now being captured online.
"I suspect that this is partly the reason why there is a balancing call for authenticity."
The research also found that the responses of the Generation Y respondents reflected
a desire to be as real as possible, but they were caught in a paradox caused by access
to a virtual life which enabled them to shape and manipulate their image.
"In a tribe you are who you are," Mr Salt said in a statement.
"In a cyber tribe you can present a photo-shopped image of yourself ... and your status
can be strategically updated."

Qld: Fraser says Qld budget to be toughest in 50 years
BRISBANE, April 9 AAP - Queensland Treasurer Andrew Fraser says a drop in economic
activity, as shown by the latest jobless figures, will make this year's budget the toughest
in decades.
New figures released on Thursday showed Queensland's unemployment rate had risen to
4.8 per cent in March from 4.5 per cent on February.
The figure was well up on the 3.6 per cent recorded a year ago.
Mr Fraser said it would make budget deliberations tough.
"Queensland will see a clear course of action in the toughest set of circumstance created
in this nation and around the world for the better part of a century," Mr Fraser said.
Mr Fraser said he would frame a budget to take Queensland beyond the current economic downturn.
"This will be a tough budget," he said.
Mr Fraser said the reduced economic activity would put GST revenue at risk.

Qld: We love and perform the anthem, Muslim school says
(EDS: Adds comments from chairman, trustee of school)
BRISBANE, Dec 5 AAP - Students at an Islamic school in Brisbane sang Advance Australia
Fair at a year-end assembly on Friday, as a furore erupted over claims it had banned the
anthem.
Controversy erupted after a former teacher at the Australian International Islamic
College told The Courier-Mail newspaper the school, in the Brisbane suburb of Durack,
had "banned" the anthem.
But the school chairman, Imam Abdul Quddoos Azhari, told AAP the anthem was played
at "every important occasion".
School trustee Keysar Trad said news the anthem was not played regularly at school
assemblies came as a shock.
"A quick investigation we did ... found that because they have a daily assembly at
the school every morning, the principal came up with the idea - without getting the full
board's endorsement - she didn't want to perform the anthem every morning," Mr Trad said.
"The anthem is being performed at every special function we have."
Mr Trad said the anthem was sung as recently as a graduation ceremony last Wednesday.
"Our school choir has performed the anthem at many other events, not just at the school
but outside the school as well," he said.
"Our school choir is fairly well known for their ability to perform the national anthem.
"We actually promote the anthem, because we like it.
"Personally, I love the content because it's full of these wonderful words which reflect
values that we all share."
Mr Trad said the anthem will continue to be performed at every school function. Trustees
and the board will meet to discuss the logistics of performing the anthem at every school
assembly.
"My personal recommendation is that it be performed at every assembly," he told AAP.
He said the anthem was performed at the holiday break assembly at the school on Friday.
"Anyone can see that the children are standing up and performing the national anthem,"
Mr Trad said.

NSW: Outgoing petrol commissioner a 'patsy', says Joyce
SYDNEY, Aug 1 AAP - Outgoing petrol commissioner Pat Walker was a "patsy" who had no
option but to quit the new post, Nationals Senator Barnaby Joyce says.
Mr Walker, Australia's first petrol commissioner, yesterday quit for personal reasons
less than four months after taking up the position.
Prime Minister Kevin Rudd created the post earlier this year to tackle allegations
of collusion and price gouging by major oil companies and their petrol stations.
However, Mr Rudd's failure to strengthen the Trade Practices Act in support of the
new role made Mr Walker "not so much a Pat, but a patsy", Senator Joyce said.
"Mr Walker was not given any further powers from what was already there," Senator Joyce
told AAP during a break in a senate committee hearing into the National FuelWatch Bill
in Sydney.
"It stands without question, that if you're not given more powers you won't have any
more influence than what was already there.
"He was smart enough to say, `I'm getting out of here'."
Asked if calling Mr Walker a patsy was perhaps too strong a criticism, Senator Joyce
said: "Well, he was set up".
"I think he saw his whole career being flushed down the toilet.
"There is no capacity for any person to make any real difference, because they have
no powers to do it.
"Mr Rudd told everybody that he was going to reduce the price of fuel, then it morphed
into he was going to tell you more about fuel, and now we find out it is going to do nothing
about fuel.
"We have been taken for a ride, and the actions of Mr Walker clearly demonstrate that."

NSW: Anthrax outbreak in NSW's Upper Hunter hits eight farms
By Danny Rose
SYDNEY, Dec 30 AAP - The anthrax outbreak in NSW's Upper Hunter region has now claimed
eight farms, but authorities say their control efforts have "taken a turn for the best".
The Department of Primary Industries (DPI) says the number of cattle deaths resulting
from the deadly outbreak has stalled at about 30.
"The anthrax situation at Rouchel, near Scone, has taken a turn for the best," DPI
spokesman Brett Fifield said today.
"It is now more than two days since we have witnessed any deaths in animals, and this
signals to our veterinarians on the ground that the vaccine is beginning to take effect.
"The situation is slowly beginning to return to normal, as the vaccination begins to
build immunity levels in the animals on the eight properties."
Mr Fifield said the eight properties range from large holdings with up to 500 head
of stock to smaller farms with less than 30 cattle.
They were now under quarantine, preventing any animal movement on to or off the properties
until 41 days after their last animal was vaccinated.
Efforts are now underway to vaccinate all animals on farms neighbouring the eight infected
properties, Mr Fifield said, to create a "ring of immunity".
The first deaths resulting from the naturally-occurring anthrax outbreak were reported
on Christmas Eve.
"Some of the farmers started vaccinating their animals on Christmas Day, and vaccinating
through Boxing Day as well, so they haven't had the Christmas they wanted," Mr Fifield
said.
"The response from each of the farmers involved has been very good and it really has
helped us to stem the impact of this disease."
The outbreak is thought to be a result of driving rain which hit the region earlier
this month, exposing naturally-occurring anthrax spores which can remain dormant in the
soil for decades.
Mr Fifield said NSW experienced between four and six anthrax outbreaks per year, however
they usually occurred in a known "anthrax belt" in the state's west.
"We were surprised that it turned up near Scone, so we will be monitoring the situation
for some time," he said.
Anthrax is a bacterial infection that, without treatment, is deadly in animals and humans.
Since 1982, there have been only three reported cases of people in NSW contracting anthrax.

Vic: Flu death in Vic nursing home =2
Twelve residents were struck down with the flu when the virus swept through the nursing
home earlier this month.
The centre is in quarantine but Mr Mullane said it was hoped that would be lifted today
as residents improved.
"Most of them aren't (showing flu symptoms anymore), we're taking more swabs today
just to make sure," he told AAP.
"These residents are frail, aged people who have a lot of (other) symptoms."
The death is the second known Victorian flu fatality this year.
Two weeks ago, five-year-old Melbourne boy Ethan Ioannou died from Influenza A.
But Department of Human Services (DHS) spokesman Bram Alexander said cases did not
have to be reported to the DHS, unless they were laboratory confirmed instances of influenza.
Australia is in the grips of a flu epidemic.
There have been 4,422 notifications this year - three times the average in the past
five years, according to a federal health report, released yesterday.
Queensland is the worst hit, with 2,197 cases, followed by NSW on 713, Western Australia
with 603 and Victoria with 371.
Mr Alexander said Victoria had escaped the worst of the epidemic.
"We're in what we would describe as just above what we would consider our normal seasonal
activity for influenza," he said.
The elderly should take advantage of free flu shots for seniors over 65 and be on the
lookout for symptoms, Mr Alexander said.
"The elderly and the young are more susceptible to influenza, we know that, and people
who have care of the elderly or the young should be vigilant to signs and symptoms and
not hesitate if they see flu-like symptoms."
Mr Alexander said the flu was not necessarily responsible for deaths in elderly patients,
who often suffered from other ailments, but could contribute by aggravating or sparking
other conditions.
"What we want to hear about are cases of influenza, especially outbreaks in settings
such as this (nursing home), to make sure that outbreaks are being taken care of as appropriate,"
he said.

Vic: Legionnaires' source not found in Melbourne's west
By Nick Lenaghan
MELBOURNE, April 5 AAP - Health authorities have so far failed to identify the source
of a cluster of legionnaires' cases in Melbourne's inner west but believe the area is
now safe.
Two cases of the disease have been confirmed while authorities are awaiting blood test
results on a probable third case.
The state's deputy chief health officer, John Carnie, said 21 cooling towers - which
can harbour the legionella bacteria - had been disinfected in the region even though they
had showed no sign of the bug.
"So far we have not identified the source and we don't think there is any ongoing risk,"
Dr Carnie told reporters today.
"All of the cooling towers that were looked at in the areas where these people live
and work have turned out to be negative but they have in any case been disinfected as
a precaution."
Health authorities will continue trying to identify a source although it was possible
one may never be found.
Dr Carnie said it was also possible a cooling tower that had previously harboured the
bacteria had since tested negative during the health department checks.
A 48-year-old man from Tottenham and a 79-year-old woman from Seddon were recovering
at home after being diagnosed with legionnaires' disease in January and March.
Meanwhile, a 43-year-old woman from Yarraville with symptoms consistent with the disease
is awaiting test results.
Dr Carnie said people in Melbourne's inner west - including Maribyrnong, Tottenham,
Seddon and Footscray - should go about their usual activities.
But anyone suffering ongoing flu-like symptoms or respiratory problems should consult
a doctor, he said.
"They should perhaps see a doctor and indicate the fact that they've heard on the media
that there's been a small cluster of cases and suggest that they could be tested for the
disease."
There have been seven cases of legionnaires' disease in Victoria this year, compared
with 28 for the same period last year.
Even so, a spike in cases usually occurs during the autumn months.
"With the changing of the seasons as the daily temperature varies, there may be a tendency
sometimes to turn cooling tower systems on and off," Dr Carnie said.
"Therefore there may be a chance for legionella bacteria sometimes to grow in cooling
tower systems."

Childbirth is something you don't forget, trust that. Janet Jackson is
adamant that she doesn't have a daughter, despite what her former
brother-in-law Young DeBarge is telling anyone who'll listen.
DeBarge, the brother of Ms. Jackson's first husband James DeBarge, is
claiming that the two have an 18-year-old daughter Renee that has been kept
secret and raised by Janet's oldest sister Rebbie. Janet denies the
allegations, while others say DeBarge, 28, is only trying to gain attention
for his new album.
Janet has also made headlines in recent days, captured by peeping toms ...

Michael Jackson returned several antiques to settle a lawsuit with a
gallery that accused him of not paying part of a nearly $380,000 bill,
attorneys said.
Kamad Enterprise, which owns Mayfair Gallery, claimed Jackson still owed
$128,875 toward $378,875 worth of merchandise he purchased in May,
according to Saul Reiss, an attorney for the company.
Jackson agreed to return items that included a Chinese chest, a mirror,
clocks and a barometer, from that sale and a past sale, Reiss said.
Jackson's attorney, Brent Ayscough, confirmed the settlement and said
Jackson did not pay the company any money to settle the case. He said he
did not know the exact dollar value of the returned items but that it was
"in the neighborhood" of the disputed amount.
Cam'ron is also suing fellow music maker R. Kelly. The rapper claims that

the hip-hop superstar reportedly co-wrote.
The original version of the song, first appeared on R. Kelly's smash hit
album "Chocolate Factory," which features the singer and "Big Tigga" while
the remix features the pair plus Cam'ron.
Kelly is having more than his share of legal issues these days. He's due in
court to determine whether rape charges will be pursued and his wife Andrea
has filed for and been granted an order of protection against him.

The death of Rosa Parks, an icon of the civil-rights movement, has forced

Parks, who died on October 24 at age 92, was the subject of a few jokes in
an episode of "The Boondocks," which is based on Aaron McGruder's
controversial comic strip. McGruder says the references will be taken out.
That they were even there in the first place is probably a pretty good
indication that the show, which premieres Sunday, November 6 in the Adult
Swim late-night block, will follow the comic strip's tradition of not being
afraid to offend.
After years of rapping about the mean streets, the thug life came knocking
on New York-based rapper Cam'ron's door last week -- the door to his royal

He was out for a night on the town in Washington, D.C., driving from one

2:00 a.m. and demanded his car. The rapper refused and was shot.
Reportedly the bullet went in one arm and through the other. Cam'ron drove
himself to the hospital. In keeping with the "this don't phase me" image so
many rappers like to keep up, the rapper reportedly asked a nurse for her
phone number.
He spent 12 hours at Howard University Hospital before flying back to New

E-City Software's 3D CityMap Wireless Gathers Press Momentum for Launch At World's Largest Wireless Show.
Business Editors/Hi-Tech Writers
CTIA WIRELESS 2002
SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 30, 2002
E-City Software, Inc. (E-City) (OTCBB:ECTY) announced today that its 3D CityMap Wireless product would launch at the CTIA WIRELESS 2002 Conference, the world's largest wireless industry conference, which is to be held in Orlando, Florida on March 17-20, 2002.
CEO Anis Jessa explained, "We have received a number of inquiries regarding the upcoming launch of our 3D CityMap Wireless product and feel that the CTIA Conference will be the best forum in which to launch and showcase this innovative wireless mapping product. The leading carriers, hardware and software providers, system developers and integrators, resellers and customers for the 3D CityMap Wireless will all be in attendance. Once individual carriers see the competitive advantage of offering 3D CityMap wireless to their subscribers, we believe the potential is limitless."
E-City's wireless product and related launch has received mention in the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, The Puget Sound Business Journal, on www.eyefortravel.com (a UK based e-marketing and technology resource for the travel community), on www.m-travel.com (a US based source of news for the travel industry), and on www.wirelessdevnet.com (a leading on-line community for information technology professionals interested in mobile computing and communications).
The E-City 3D CityMap Wireless product is designed to deliver high-quality, visually enhanced maps over wireless enabled devices. E-City mapping content, originally developed for delivery over the Internet or in secure Intranet environments, is ideally suited for viewing by the traveler, business professional or user of handheld location based services.
Mobile fleets, dispatch centers, E-911 enabled wireless devices, wearable computers, and in-vehicle navigation devices can all benefit from our core mapping technology and content applied in the wireless environment.
CEO Anis Jessa continued, "We believe absolutely in the future of wireless data transmission, the enormity of the market potential and the natural fit with GPS, GIS and mapping applications in this environment. For instance, Symbian was founded by telecommunications giants Nokia, Ericsson, and later Motorola to create a common software platform for wireless information devices. In a memo to employees, Bill Gates, Microsoft's chairman, singled out Symbian, a then 10-month-old company with just 260 employees, as one of the greatest competitive threats to his corporate empire. Mr. Gates is not alone in believing that wireless data transmission has the potential to change everything. We believe that the 3D CityMap Wireless product represents a `killer-application' for E-City and we intend to aggressively pursue this market."
E-City Software, Inc. (OTCBB:ECTY) is a developer of interactive maps for cities around the world. E-City sells its products to customers on the basis of both annual licensing fees and revenue share arrangements. Italian Fashion Goes High-Click.(online)(Brief Article)
Designers are finally discovering the web
Compared to other sectors in the Italian business world, the high fashion companies are showing a reluctance to go online. Aside from accessories, sportswear, and casuals, the leading fashion houses have made few inroads into e-commerce proper.
But all that could change soon. Many analysts see the year ahead as decisive as companies turn to the Internet to improve visibility and brand image. Already some of the big designers, who once snubbed the Internet, are exploring cyber strategies. Sites have been going up at a dizzying rate with top houses rushing to get their corporate messages onto the loop, as witnessed by the emergence of Gucci.com, Georgioarmani.com and the soon-to-go-live Gianniversace.com.
Yet, if the big names are building marketing web sites, true e-commerce remains in the future. It may be that the Internet is just too democratic for the top designers whose products, they say, are unique. Houses like Gucci and Prada insist their products are different from the likes of New York's Ralph Lauren, which sells to the mass market through big retail chains.
Gucci has long fought to keep its brand name under house control and is not keen on franchising through the Internet. The Florence-based house has said it is currently developing its strategy in the sector and at present has no plans to sell its products online. Interestingly enough, however, it has an e-business department at its offices in New York.
Of the leading houses, Giorgio Armani has no plans as yet to launch into the Internet, except for distribution of a jeans line in the US, while Gianni Versace is selling accessories on the Luxlook.com site but is not contemplating an e-commerce outlet for its collections.
Many think Italy has been slow compared to the aggressive strategy of France's luxury baron Bernard Arnault, whose firm LVMH has launched a luxury goods portal, Luxory.com, for sales to the United States. The venture includes Italian luxury group Bulgari as well as other accessory products from selected Italian houses. Arnault is also set to create Italy's first "cyber brand" by puffing Pucci fashion, which it acquired earlier this year, on eluxury.com by mid-October.
But if the world of high fashion has reservations, some of the less upmarket companies are making moves. Earlier this year the Burani group, makers of the Mariella Burani line, took control of an Italian Internet service provider with the aim of creating a fashion portal to sell not only its own products on-line but to provide access for smaller fashion companies to profitable foreign markets.
Last year, Benetton launched an e-commerce project that will see the creation of a portal by the end of 2000 to sell its clothing collections and sportswear range as well as provide more general information and services on things like music and travel. The group will be looking for foreign partners and will probably join with America's Andersen Consulting.
Ittierre, the group that owns Dolce & Gabbana, is working on a project that in just a few months it expects will generate e-business worth some 20-30 percent of traditional turnover. The project, designed to meet the increasing internationalization of the business, will be realized with Telecom Italia's online unit Tin.it and is expected to get underway within the year.
Stefanel has chosen venture capital firm Pino Venture as partner for its e-plans and hopes that other groups in the sector will come onboard to share the benefits. The company intends to pursue both business-to-business and business-to-consumer trade. However, despite its appetite for the web, Stefanel says bricks-and-mortar outlets will remain the focus of its business with the Internet simply boosting traditional sales.
Although late, Italian fashion is slowly but surely waking up to the Internet's potential The Finpart holding group, which recently took its shops into the US, is set to launch a pilot project that at first will put only its Frette brand on-line but will eventually market its other brands such as Henry Cotton's, Moncler, and Maska.
Times are changing. Just how long the Italian fashion gurus can afford to stay out of the loop is a moot question.
INFONET: Companies of the ARBED Group choose Infonet's global communications network to deploy SAP.
M2 PRESSWIRE-13 July 1999-INFONET: Companies of the ARBED Group choose Infonet's global communications network to deploy SAP (C)1994-99 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD
RDATE:120799
* More than 50% improvement in network response time enables effective implementation
Luxembourg -- Infonet Services Corporation today announced that it is supplying Global Frame Relay and Remote Access services to the commercial and trading network of several major sectors of the ARBED Group, one of the world's leading steel manufacturers. By providing connectivity to these companies in more than 40 locations around the world, Infonet's services will enable the efficient deployment of the chosen ERP application, SAP.
The ARBED Group is established as one of Europe's leading producers offlat products and as a major supplier to the automotive industry. In the long products sector, it holds the position of a market leader in beams and piling sections. The ARBED Group is a major player in the European flat stainless steel products market and is one of the leading producers of iron ore and steelcord worldwide. In addition, it is the leading manufacturer of drawn wire products in South America. Its sales, marketing and trading network comprises outlets in more than 60 countries.
Furthermore, the ARBED Group is active in the sectors of engineering and the production of extra-thin copper foil.
Infonet has been providing connectivity for Profil ARBED for almost ten years. When the ARBED Group decided to implement the ERP system, SAP, the performance of its internal data network became an urgent priority. The use of Infonet's Global Frame Relay Services will improve the response time and performance: of ARBED's network by at least 50%, providing the high performance infrastructure essential for the efficient deployment of mission critical applications.
In addition to more than 30 permanent connections, Infonet's DialXpress Branch Office will provide a secure and cost-effective dial-up solution for the companies' smaller offices and modem dial-up access for their mobile employees.
Trade ARBED's Roger Bouss says: "Due to the time and money involved in setting up the ERP system, it was imperative that we had a network capable of supporting ERP and this meant teaming up with a supplier we could trust.
"For the final evaluation, Infonet was asked to set up a trial network in three weeks, connecting five locations. Independent evaluators from Alcatel and Tecsys then assessed Infonet on three criteria: its ability to complete within schedule, its accessibility to all five locations, and the performance of the network with simulated SAP traffic. Infonet scored 100% on all three."
Georges Seil, Infonet Luxembourg General Manager adds: "I hope to see the Infonet and ARBED Group relationship grow and mature, providing global enterprise-wide connectivity solutions into the future."

We love heading down to Bastakiya, and after strolling through the galleries, tucking into a traditional Arabic meal among the wind towers. Bastakiya Nights offers a set menu, with a tantalisingly tasty buckwheat soup (make sure you squeeze the lemon provided into the soup to give it tang), delicious mezze starters and a choice of several main courses. Should you find an inch of empty space left at the end of the meal, the Arabic desserts and fresh fruit will ensure you leave groaning. 04 353 7772
